Ken Lindeman Co-Edits New Book on Urban Sustainability

Book Brings Best Practices in
Sustainability to American Audience

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Institute of Technology professor Ken Lindeman is co-editor of a new book that provides an innovative blueprint for sustainability in urban settings.

The book, Designing Sustainable Urban Futures, Concepts and Practices from Different Countries, is based on ideas generated at an international symposium organized by the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Karlsruhe, Germany, in May 2014.

The symposium was held in cooperation with Florida Tech and the Budapest University of Technology and Economics with support from Siemens Engineering.

Lindeman, sustainability program chair in Florida Tech’s Department of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies, co-edited the work with three German colleagues to showcase ideas and concepts already underway, primarily in European cities.

“Over fifty percent of the world’s population is now urban, with many complex challenges,” Lindeman said. “However, as illustrated in our book, urban scales can concentrate human and financial capital and potentially catalyze positive innovations.”
