As Hurricane Matthew moves through the Caribbean toward possible U.S. landfall later this week, faculty experts from Florida Institute of Technology are available to speak on various relevant topics.

  • Marine meteorology and coastal beach erosion due to storm surge.
    Expert: George Maul, professor of ocean engineering and fellow of the American Meteorological Society
  • Psychological effects before and after a hurricane, and managing stress.
    Expert: Victoria Follette, chair and professor of clinical psychology
  • Wind damage to structures; hurricane mitigation measures; safeguarding home, business and infrastructure; and post-storm cleanup.
    Expert: Albert Bleakley, associate professor of construction management
  • The science of hurricanes, coastal meteorology, wind and wave modeling, and thunderstorms.
    Expert: Steven Lazarus, professor of ocean sciences
  • Evacuation decisions and transportation issues.
    Expert: Rodrigo Mesa-Arango, assistant professor, head of Transportation Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering and Construction Management
