Florida Tech’s Scott Center for Autism Treatement Launches Telehealth Initiative
High-Tech Outreach Will Bring Expertise
to Those in Need Around the Country
MELBOURNE, FLA. — The Scott Center for Autism Treatment at Florida Institute of Technology is launching a 21st century-initiative that will use technology to make its expert staff, cutting-edge research and influential training programs available to people in need far beyond its home base in Florida.
The aim of the Scott Center Telehealth/Telemedicine Initiative is to help significantly broaden the reach of the facility by eroding the barriers of expense and geography that currently constrain delivery of services.
“The Scott Center, in partnership with Florida Tech, has unique advantages that enable it to be distinctly successful at reaching exponentially more families and children around the country and potentially around the world in the coming era of digital healthcare,” said Mary Beth Kenkel, dean of Florida Tech’s College of Psychology and Liberal Arts. “Thanks to a generous gift from Ed and Cheryl Scott, who founded our Center, we are in a unique position to provide valuable information and increased access to care and community resources to many more children and families.”
This new initiative has included the launch of AutismAdvisor.org, a website with essential resources for families and communities, including easy-to-use assessment tools, more than 100 Scott Center-produced videos, and other resources on early diagnosis, therapy options, teaching living skills and more.
In the future, the Scott Center Telehealth/Telemedicine Initiative will include an interactive portal to assist therapists and enable direct and ongoing interaction between therapists and families.
The digital initiative will ultimately expand to employ telemedicine for clinical support for children and their families, broadening the reach of the Scott Center even further and placing it at the forefront of this medical revolution.

Dwayne McCay. “We are grateful to Ed and Cheryl Scott for their support in creating the Scott Center for Autism Treatment and for their gift to launch this innovative initiative.”
Ed Scott has been a Florida Tech trustee since 2003.
