Florida Tech’s WFIT 89.5 FM Seeking ‘Garage Bands’ for Contest

Winner Will Receive Recording Session, Radio Appearance, Concert Slot

MELBOURNE, FLA. — A Brevard County band could win a recording session at WFIT’s performance studio on the Florida Institute of Technology campus and a slot at the station’s Spring Music Festival as the WFIT Garage Band Contest gets underway.

To be eligible, bands must be unsigned and include at least one member who is enrolled in a Brevard County high school, college or university.

To enter, bands must film a new video of them performing an original song in a garage. The video, no longer than 10 minutes, should then be uploaded to YouTube, with the link then included on the contest entry form. The band must submit an entry form and any necessary parental consent forms – all available at www.wfit.org – by Feb. 28. No other method of submission will be accepted.

Though the song must be original, any genre of music is allowed.

The videos will be judged based on musical quality/appeal, originality, and stage presence/charisma.

The winning band will be notified by phone or email on or about March 15 and then announced to the public at noon March 16 on WFIT 89.5 FM.

The winning band will be interviewed by “Sound Waves” host Todd Kennedy on WFIT and get to perform its winning song in the WFIT Performance Studio, with the recording to be aired on WFIT at a later date. Additional prizes include serving as the opening act of the 2017 WFIT Spring Music Festival on April 8, and receiving a recording session in the Performance Studio.
