Larsen Motorsports Highlights Power of STEM, Speed of Jet Dragster at Summer Nationals

Florida Tech Partners to Dazzle Crowd with Weekend Demos

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Blazing down the drag strip at 300 miles per hour and firing up the minds of enraptured young people exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), championship driver Elaine Larsen and the Larsen Motorsports team are making their mark at the NHRA Summer Nationals this weekend.

Held before thousands of boisterous fans at the Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J., the event is the 48th annual gathering at the historic racetrack 50 miles outside of Manhattan.

Larsen Motorsports, an affiliate of Florida Institute of Technology and based at the university’s Center for Research and Development in Palm Bay, is conducting flame-filled demonstration this weekend and will be a must-see destination on NHRA’s famous pit row. That’s where ticket-holding fans mingle with drivers, mechanics and others and see vehicles close-up.

The Larsen team is also a leading participant in the NHRA’s Youth & Education Services (YES) Program presented by the U.S. Army. Founded in 1989, YES is the only full-time education initiative in motorsports that provides programs and activities for schools and youth organizations nationwide. The program’s STEM emphasis, highlighting how these disciplines are applied to real-world situations and NHRA drag racing, is anchored by Larsen Motorsports.
