Florida Tech Faculty Recital Oct. 1 to Feature Eliza Dopira

Mezzo-Soprano Offers Free,
Public Concert at Gleason      

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Eliza Dopira, a music instructor and director of choral and string studies at Florida Institute of Technology and an accomplished opera singer who studied at the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music at Johns Hopkins University, will offer a free concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Gleason Performing Arts Center on the Florida Tech campus.

Dopira will perform arias and art songs by Chausson, Bellini, Brahms, and others. She will be accompanied by Lori Jahn.

After earning a a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Florida State University in 2002, Dopira earned a master’s degree in voice and opera performance from the Peabody Conservatory in 2004 and her Graduate Performance Diploma in Opera from the conservatory in 2006.

She has performed opera roles with Sarasota Opera, Lake George Opera of Saratoga Springs, and Washington Summer Opera. An accomplished concert artist, she was chosen to perform solos in concert with the National Symphony, River Cities Symphony, Bryn Mawr Chorale, Johns Hopkins Choral Society and Peabody Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, she performed solos with Brevard Symphony Orchestra and Space Coast Symphony and, last month, sang in Franz Lehár’s “The Merry Widow” presented by Orlando Light Opera and Space Coast Symphony Orchestra.

“We are fortunate to have such an accomplished opera talent residing in the Space Coast and we are proud to have her as a member of the Florida Tech faculty,” said Kevin Burke, the university’s director of music programs. “We have showcased resident artists like Christian Tamburr and Alice Lestang, as well as guests such as the Brass Hoppers Trio, and we are thrilled to continue that trend by highlighting the renowned talent we have right here on campus.”
