Florida Tech Professors Look to the Future at Free Event Sept. 28
‘2058: A Look Into the Future’ Starts
at 6:30 p.m. at Evans Library
MELBOURNE, FLA. — As Florida Tech celebrates the 60th anniversary of its founding, five members of the faculty will predict what the next 40 years may hold as the university’s Library After Hours series presents, “2058: A Look Into the Future” on Friday, Sept. 28.
The free, public event is from 6:30-8 p.m. on the first floor of Evans Library on Florida Tech’s Melbourne campus. Refreshments will be served.
Speaking at the event will be:
- Gordon Patterson, professor of history, arts and communication, who will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
- Steven Lazarus, professor, ocean engineering and sciences. He will discuss, “Publishing in the future under the paradigm of interactive notebooks and open data.”
- Keith Gallagher, associate professor, computer engineering and sciences. He will discuss, “What will tomorrow’s errors look like? Are we safe from ourselves?”
- Joel Olson, associate professor, biomedical and chemical engineering and sciences. He will discuss, “Moore’s Law and the evolution of computing power and nanotechnology in medicine and genetic technologies (i.e. CRISPR).”
- Hamid Rassoul, Distinguished University Professor, aerospace, physics and space sciences. He will discuss, “What is the likely future of physics and space, specifically ‘astroparticles,’ extra dimensions and their potential impacts by 2058?”
