Florida Tech Convenes High School Business Ethics Competition Nov. 9

Up to $192,000 in Scholarships
and Cash for Winning Teams

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech’s Nathan Bisk College of Business will hold its 22nd Annual High School Business Ethics and Leadership Competition starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9.

Twelve teams of high school students from Brevard County are scheduled to participate in the daylong competition, where they are asked to develop and analyze solutions to business ethics and leadership challenges.

The competition, which is open to the public, will be held at the university’s Center for Aeronautics and Innovation, 1050 W. NASA Blvd. in Melbourne.

The competition is sponsored by Community Credit Union and Florida Tech.

The competition is structured as follows:

Morning Elimination Round: 9:30-11:50 a.m.: Teams will develop and analyze solutions to a business ethics and leadership problem concerning “Facebook Fake News in the Post Truth World.” This issue crosses all social media formats beyond Facebook. The top four teams will advance to the ranking round.
Lunch: 12–12:45 p.m.
Ranking Round: 2:15-4:30 p.m.: The four final teams are given one hour to formulate an ethical solution to a different situation, unknown to them until their preparation time begins.

Teams are limited to no more than four, but no less than three, team members, including no more than two seniors or juniors.

Judges come from a variety of career fields. They include members of the Bisk College of Business Advisory Board as well as several community members.

In total, the competition will award anywhere from $144,000 to $192,000, depending on team size, in merit scholarships and cash to the top teams.

All participants in the Business Ethics Competition are guaranteed a minimum merit scholarship of $12,000, renewable for three additional years, if they enroll at Florida Tech.

Additionally, members of the top four teams in the competition will receive a Florida Tech academic grant that may be combined with the minimum merit scholarship guarantee if they enroll in the Bisk College of Business, as follows: Members of the first-place team will receive an additional $4,000 per year; second-place team members receive an additional $3,000 per year; third-place team members receive an additional $2,000 per year; and fourth-place team members will receive an additional $1,000.
