Florida Tech Fall Commencement Starts New Chapter for Nearly 900 Grads

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech conferred nearly 900 degrees upon students from the U.S. and around the world on Saturday as the university held its fall commencement ceremonies.

Fall graduates hailed from 36 U.S. states and 58 countries.

The undergraduate ceremony involved an estimated 246 students, and 393 were slated to participate in the graduate ceremony.

Florida Tech alumnus and trustee Tim Wakefield offered remarks at the 9:30 a.m. ceremony for undergraduate students. Wakefield, a two-time World Series champion with the Boston Red Sox, also received an honorary degree from Florida Tech President Dwayne McCay.

In the afternoon ceremony for graduate students, McCay presented an honorary degree to Carl Bottcher, a Boston-area entrepreneur who with his wife JoAnn established the Carl and JoAnn Bottcher Endowed Scholarship at Florida Tech to support the achievement of exceptional students in the College of Engineering and Science.
