Celebrate Global Diversity Feb. 16 at Florida Tech International Fest

Travel the World Without Leaving Campus at Free Public Event

MELBOURNE, FLA. — From Africa to Korea, Saudi Arabia to Taiwan, the world’s cultures, traditions and foods will be celebrated at Florida Tech’s 14th Annual International Festival from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, on the university’s outdoor Panther Plaza.

The festival has free admission and is open to the public.

Through performances, food and hands-on experiences, attendees will experience the rich cultural variety that enlivens both the university – home to students from more than 100 countries – and the broader Space Coast community.

There will be a variety of performances. Groups scheduled to perform include the Shik Shak Belly Dance Club, Florida Tech student associations from Africa, the Caribbean, Oman, India, Latin America and Saudi Arabia, the Florida Tech Swing Dance Club, and many cultural performers from the community, including Accordion music by Klaus Kolb, Voice of Indonesians in Florida, and the Calvary Chapel Asian Ministry dancers.

Many of those student associations, as well as other Florida Tech and community groups, will present cultural displays. Participating groups include those representing Brazil, Iraq, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Korea and Taiwan as well as other university and community cultural groups, including the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.

Food vendors at the festival will be ARC’s Ice Cream Truck, Hazel’s Caribbean Restaurant, Habanero Grill Mexican Restaurant, Taal Indian Restaurant, Colombian Harvest, Bangkok Thai Restaurant, Old School Pizza and Falafel Stop Mediterranean Restaurant.

The festival will also feature several children’s activities, including bounce houses, face painting and the popular Passport to the World program. This free activity encourages children to visit different cultural displays to learn something unique about each of the many countries and cultures represented.

Sponsors of the 14th Annual International Festival are the Florida Tech Office of International Student and Scholar Services, WFIT 89.5 FM, and the Florida Tech Office of Business and Retail Operations.

In the case of rain, the festival will be held in the university’s Clemente Center.
