Docent Training at the Funk Center Launches with March 30 Mixer

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech’s Ruth Funk Center for Textile Arts will launch its 2020 docent training program with a mixer for interested participants at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 30, in the Funk Center’s second-floor mezzanine.

Light refreshments will be served. 

“The mixer will be a great chance to chat with some of our current docents and find out why the Ruth Funk Center is a great place to volunteer,” said Donna Sewell, the center’s manager of visitor services.

Anyone with an interest in the arts who would like to learn more about textiles and enjoys working with the public can become an advocate for cultural enrichment by serving as a volunteer docent at the center. The training program offers an intimate look into the world of fiber arts through unique demonstrations and lectures. The program officially begins at 9 a.m. April 13 and continues on the following Mondays from 9 a.m. to noon through June 8, with the exception of Memorial Day.

The center is located next to Evans Library on the Florida Tech campus in Melbourne, 150 W. University Blvd. Admission is free. Its current exhibit, Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence, continues through April 25.
